Security Tokens and Asset Tokenization

The term "tokenization of assets" describes the process of turning a physical asset or a digital asset into a token and storing them in a distributed ledger using blockchain technology.

Asset tokenization is a much-needed feature because it increases liquidity by allowing the trading of asset-backed tokens on secondary markets. Tokenization increases market efficiency by reducing the time, cost, and complexity associated with traditional asset transfers.
Asset fractional ownership is made possible through tokenization, wherein smaller tokenized units are created, allowing individuals or organizations to possess a portion of an asset instead of owning the entire asset.
Global trading: 24/7 global trading of blockchain-based tokenized assets is achievable without the requirement of intermediaries.
By leveraging blockchain's inherent cryptography and immutable features, tokenization of assets not only strengthens security but also streamlines the buying, selling, and transferring of assets. This is achieved through the automation of cumbersome processes using smart contract programs.
Tokenization increases marketability and accessibility of the high capital assets and allows a broader pool of investors to strengthen their investment portfolio.

Security tokens

A token standard designed specifically to represent ownership or investment in a tokenized physical asset or digital asset is security token. Security tokens are designed and mainly used to comply with securities regulations and represent traditional financial assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, or investment funds.
Key properties of Security Tokens:
Asset Backing : The value of security tokens is derived from an underlying real-world asset or financial instrument.
Transferability: Leveraging blockchain technology enables expedited and streamlined transfer of ownership, enhancing efficiency in the process. Digital asset exchanges or alternative trading systems facilitate the trading of security tokens.
Regulatory Compliance: Security tokens are governed by securities laws and regulations. Issuance and trading of security tokens must comply with relevant securities regulations, which acts as safeguards for investors.
ERC1400 & XRC1400:
ERC1400, an Ethereum standard and XRC1400, an XDC blockchain standard for security tokens provides a set of rules and guidelines for issuing and managing security tokens. Key properties of security token standards that makes it a go to standard for issuing security tokens are.,
Partitioning: Based on the representation of ownership, Security tokens provides different categories or classes or partitioning of the assets.
Equity tokens: Representing ownership in a company.
Debt Tokens: Representing debt instruments such as bonds or loans.
Asset-backed Tokens: Representing physical assets such as real estate, artwork etc.
Other categories include Hybrid tokens, Revenue Sharing tokens etc.
Transfer Restriction: Security tokens implies restriction on transfer of security tokens. This helps ensure that transfers comply with legal regulations and issuer-specific rules.
Issuance and Redemption: Security token standards defines functions that allow for the creation of new tokens when assets are tokenized and the redemption of tokens when investors want to convert them back into the underlying assets.
Other properties include Document Management, Interoperability, and compliance management.

Tokenization provides various benefits, including increased liquidity, fractional ownership, enhanced security, transparency, and interoperability and Security tokens enables tokenization of assets by providing partitioning, document management and compliance management controlling issuance and redemption of asset ownership.

Plugin's internal hackathon- 1 week, 4 teams, 5 game changing DApps

Each and every member of the Plugin team demonstrated the quote through the internal hackathon conducted during the first week of Feb 2023.
The launch of Plugin roadmap 2023 has received a huge welcome from our community members and our team is all geared up to start accomplishing the goals set for 2023. One such initiative is to conduct an internal hackathon within our own team members by splitting ourselves into 4 teams and developing 5 innovative dApps that are part of our Roadmap for 2023.
This initiative blended perfectly with the visit of @cryptomitch Ronald Mitchell, a distinguished guest from XDC community and a key member of our advisory board who encouraged our team for the brilliant efforts, meticulously judged the ideas, provided ideas for next steps and announced the winners of the a week long active and enthusiastic hackathon.

Listing the projects that were developed as part of the internal hackathon:

Flight Delay Compensation: Raghuram and Jurjees are announced as the winners of the hackathon for their flawless execution of the idea and smooth demo of the product which leverages Plugin decentralized oracle, gets the flight schedule and delays and automatically settles the claim for any delay of the flight for the registered users.
Fractional Real Estate: Lokesh and Karthick presented this project that allows individuals to expand their investment portfolio by buying fractional tokens of high valued real estate properties
Crop Loss Compensation: Satheesh, Nasreen and Lokesh developed this project which leverages Plugin WFN(Weather forecast Nodes), reads the adverse climatic changes in an area and automatically settles the claim to the registered farmers.
Emergency Care Application: Raghuram and Jurjeesahamed developed another dApp that will impact the lives of direct end customers and save the golden hours of human lives during emergency situations.
Real time Air pollution tracking: Naresh Mohanraj and Meghana developed this dApp and provided a real time demo of a sensor recording the air pollution and transferring the data to blockchain using Plugin Decentralized oracle.

Thanks to our founders @vinod_khurana_e63695bf5cd and @kapilkhurana for providing this opportunity and you rightly mentioned that each and every idea is a winner and all of us should feel proud of developing a game changing Dapp within a short period of time.

This hackathon also provided us an opportunity to demo some of our projects to Mr. Billy Sebell, Executive Director at XDC Foundation and Director of Ecosystem Development North America at XDC Hybrid Blockchain Network USA who visited our Plugin office and spent his valuable time to discuss about our roadmap, see demo of our projects and shared his insightful feedback.

Also, as another proud moment, Plugin signed global partnership deal with Blockedge and MedAwatar to enhance the utility of XDC's Defi and Fintech Ecosystem. Leadership visits and global partnerships has brought more positive energy to both our community members and our team to bring more innovation in the web3 space.

Blockchain and Health Information Systems: A Vital Partnership for the Digital Age

Blockchain with its inbuilt features such as distributed ledger, decentralized storage, cryptographic encryption and immutability is now being used in many industries such as Finance, Healthcare, Edtech, Real estate, Gaming and many more. Multiple researches are happening across the globe in Blockchain technology and numerous use cases are discovered and developed everyday in these industries. Having deepened its roots in the Finance industry, Blockchain is now being considered as an effective way of addressing various concerns in the Healthcare industry.

The Healthcare industry is highly driven by regulations and two main problems that blockchain technology can address is secure transmission of the Electronic Health records/sensitive data and interoperability of the application between various entities in the Healthcare ecosystem.
Patient centric Healthcare ecosystem comprises hospitals, labs, pharmacies, ambulance services and other entities which need access to Patient health records and the transfer of the data has to be secured and follow guidelines set by regulatory bodies such as HIPAA, HL7 etc., The innovative design of blockchain solution, addresses critical data security, deployment, and installation challenges and provides the healthcare community to connect the entities in a secured manner.

While hospital and patient data management is one of the core sector of healthcare, Blockchain can be used in other aspects of the healthcare industry such as

Complete supply chain solution for Drug manufacturing ensuring authenticity of the critical drugs
Distributed ledger technology for the Medical devices company to store the records for regulatory audits
Blockchain combined with IoT technology for transmitting data from medical sensors and interventional treatments. Using AI and ML on these secure data can lead to a proactive identification of diseases and discovery of life saving drugs.

Plugin has already begun development of Healthcare DApps that can run in the powerful XDC network. Plugin’s Emergency Connect App is a global initiative to provide support to the public in case of any medical emergencies and deliver patient’s critical data to ambulance, emergency control room and patient’s care takers. Plugin’s ECA empowers medical service professionals to deliver the treatment on time and utilize every minute of the patient’s golden hour. Plugin is also working on an enterprise level hospital management DApp that can securely connect the patients to healthcare ecosystem partners and remove the hassles of getting treatment on time, getting insurance approval on time and most importantly, have complete control of their electronic health records. Plugin's initiative for Carbon offsetting

A famous quote that we have seen in posters, bags and many advertisement mediums. While all of us are working towards a sustainable environment and renewable energies, emission of Greenhouse gasses is still one of the major threats to our environment. United Nations organization urges countries for a Global coalition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Looking at the causes, transport sector contributes widely to the Greenhouse gas emissions out of which the road transport sector has nearly 40% of contribution to carbon emission.

A lot of initiatives have been taken from the Government, manufacturing, supply chain, IT and other industries to reduce the carbon footprint but one of the challenges is the involvement of the general public in these initiatives. A threat of this magnitude requires participation, not just from companies but also from people around the world.

Plugin has come up with an initiative that will be built on the XDC network which connects the general public and corporations to join hands and reduce carbon emission from the road transport sector.
This initiative encourages road transport users to drive in eco mode and earn actively tradable crypto tokens for reduction of carbon emission. Studies show that Eco-driving has reduced vehicles’ fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions by an average of 5.5%.

This project will use an IoT based OBD sensor to read the carbon reduction using Eco mode of driving from the user's vehicle and rewards him with a NFT token (Carbon Reduction Token - CRT) for every 100 KG of CO2 they save. Users can use the NFT marketplace to sell these CRTs. Plugin also brings in corporations who want to invest in Carbon offsetting projects to buy the CRT tokens available for sale using XDC or PLI tokens with an optimal exchange fee. After the deal, the XDC or PLI tokens are directly transferred to the user’s account which he can stake, redeem or convert with various options available in XDC Eco System.

PLI Blockathan 2022 - Lifetime, rewarding Experience

Happy to share that our XDC Eco Drive project is selected as the winner of PLI Blockathan India 2022!

I would like to share the wonderful learning experience and my key takeaways from the well-organized event.

36 hours of non-stop coding First seemed a difficult task but we ended going beyond that, thanks to energy level in the auditorium. The energy is always high and positive with Key note speakers and support from Plugin Team members Satheesh, Raghunath and Jurjeesh.

Innovation has no end: We had an idea of our project, but till the last few hours before the submission, we kept enhancing the solution. Discussion with stalwarts like Srinivas Mahankali, Prasanna Lohar and Logeswaran helped us to enhance the business model and make it a scalable solution. The idea finally turned to an Eco system.

Courageous young minds: I think nearly 90% of participants are college students and I was amazed by the attitude towards learning the new technology and the courage to present to the Jury.

Overall, it turned out to be a lifetime experience both as Participant and as winner.

XDC Eco Drive

Problem Description
Greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector have more than doubled since 20th century, with around 80% of this increase coming from road vehicles. Currently, the transport sector is almost completely dependent on fossil fuels. It contributes approximately one quarter of all energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. with the global car fleet due to triple by 2050, greenhouse gas emissions from transport are growing faster than any other sector.
Over 75% of road transport particulate emissions come from tyre- and brake-wear, not exhausts. This means driving style is an increasingly important determinant of overall air quality.

Solution Description

Eco driving techniques include how to start the engine, when to start braking the vehicle, and maintaining a suitable speed, which are concepts that reduce fuel consumption and, thus, CO2 emission.
Objective of this project is to encourage the drivers of the road transport to use Eco mode of driving by incentivizing through crypto tokens. The speed and Co2 emissions of the vehicles are captured by the OBD sensors and stored in the Blockchain technology. Daily, the driver is incentivized in forms of crypto tokens based on the kilometers driven in the Eco mode and reduction in Co2 emission.
XDC Eco Insurance: To participate in this initiative, the user will buy the XDC eco insurance from XDC network at an optimal cost.

XDC Tokens: Once the user is enrolled in the initiative, they will be provided with a crypto account and a secured wallet which allows them to check the balance of the credited tokens, exchange them to another digital currency or use them in the allowed gas stations to refill or car services.

XDC Market Place:
This initiative will create a new crypto market linking the petrol/Gas stations, Car repair centers, Car wash shops and car accessories shops. The vendors will be provided an account to accept the XDC eco tokens with an associated value and render service to the users. This will open up a new market place and expand XDC network.
